Our verdict on FTMO
FTMO practically defined the modern prop-firm model. Founded in Prague in 2015 (CEO Otakar Šuffner), it offers 1-Step and 2-Step (Standard and Swing) evaluations across MT4, MT5, cTrader and DXtrade, an 80% split on 2-step and 90% on 1-step, and a scaling plan reaching $2M. In December 2025 FTMO completed its acquisition of regulated brokerage OANDA — a first-of-its-kind prop-plus-brokerage group. Its multi-year payout record keeps it the most trusted name in the space.
In practice, that means you can get into a funded forex / crypto / stocks account for as little as $79 (about $71 after the RADAR code), keep 90% of your profits, and — the part that actually matters — expect payouts in 1-2 days. Where FTMO stands out, and where it doesn't, comes down to the detail below: the 2-step evaluation, the drawdown model, and the rules that decide whether a passed challenge really converts into cash in your account.
How we review & sourcing: Our reviews are built from each firm's official website (ftmo.com) alongside Prop Firm Match and other large public sources — trader communities and payout reports. Figures were last updated in July 2026. Prop-firm prices and rules change often, so always confirm the current terms on ftmo.com before you buy.
Bottom line · FTMO is the gold standard for serious traders who value a bulletproof payout record over cheap entry. With OANDA now under its roof, it's the most structurally secure name in the space. Pay full price, but sleep well.

Availability & country restrictions
You evaluate and trade a FTMO account entirely online, so your location only matters for compliance. Based in Prague, Czech Republic, FTMO accepts traders from most of the world, but — like every regulated prop firm — it cannot onboard traders from internationally sanctioned countries and regions. Some jurisdictions may carry extra restrictions for compliance reasons.
Countries & regions FTMO cannot onboard:
Compliance rules change often. Before you buy, confirm your country is eligible on the official FTMO website (ftmo.com) — some firms quietly add or remove jurisdictions.

Key rules you must respect
These are the rules that decide whether a passed FTMO account turns into a payout or an instant loss. Read them carefully — with most prop firms, traders don't fail because they can't make money, they fail because they trip a drawdown or consistency rule they skimmed over. The full, current terms always live on FTMO's official site; the table below is our plain-English summary.

How to pass the FTMO challenge
There's no secret to passing a FTMO evaluation — just a repeatable process built around its specific rules. The goal isn't to get rich in a week; it's to reach the target without ever breaching a limit. The steps below are drawn straight from FTMO's own requirements, in the order that matters. Follow them like a checklist and treat the evaluation as a discipline test, not a lottery ticket.
- 1Reach the profit target (10% / 5% (2-step Standard)) without breaching the loss limits — steady, repeatable trades beat one hero move.
- 2Set a hard stop well before the daily loss limit (5%); a single red day can end the account.
- 3Risk a small fixed amount per trade (many funded traders use 0.5–1% of the account) and stop trading once you hit the target.

FTMO FAQ
The questions traders ask us most before funding a FTMO account.
Is FTMO legit and does it actually pay?+
Yes. FTMO has operated since 2015, has the longest publicly documented payout history of any prop firm, and in December 2025 completed its acquisition of the regulated brokerage OANDA — one of the biggest moves in the industry's history.
How hard is the FTMO Challenge?+
The 2-Step Standard uses a 10% then 5% profit target with strict daily/overall loss limits. There is also a simpler 1-Step Standard (90% split) and a news-friendly 2-Step Swing route.
Can US or Australian traders use FTMO?+
Yes, via affiliated entities — US clients through ftmo.oanda.com and Australian clients through FTMO's VRGK entity at ftmo.com/au.
Is FTMO legit and does it actually pay traders?+
FTMO scores 99/100 on payout reliability in our index and has operated since 2015 out of Prague, Czech Republic, with a 90% profit split and payouts in 1-2 days. Before funding an account, check recent trader payout reports and confirm the current terms on the official site — most failed payouts trace back to a rule breach, not the firm refusing to pay.
Which countries can't use FTMO?+
FTMO cannot onboard traders from sanctioned or restricted jurisdictions, which typically include Afghanistan, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Belarus, Belize, Bhutan, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Cook Islands, Crimea (Region of Ukraine), Cuba, Djibouti, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Grenada, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Myanmar (Burma), Nauru, Niger, Niue, North Korea, Papua New Guinea, Republic of the Congo, Russia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Sao Tome and Principe, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Suriname, Syria, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vatican City, Venezuela and Western Sahara. Rules change, so always confirm your country is eligible on the official FTMO site before you buy — some firms restrict extra countries for compliance reasons.
What happens if I break a rule on a FTMO funded account?+
Breaching a hard rule — the maximum loss / trailing drawdown, or a daily loss limit where one applies — usually ends the account immediately, even if you were in profit at the time. Softer breaches (like a consistency rule) can instead delay or block a payout. This is why the drawdown type matters more than the profit split: read the Key rules section above before funding.
How long does it take to get funded with FTMO?+
You need to clear the 2-step evaluation. Disciplined traders often pass in one to two weeks; there's no maximum time limit on most plans, so trade at your own pace rather than forcing it. From there you can request your first payout in 1-2 days.
What platforms and devices can I trade FTMO on?+
FTMO supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader, DXtrade. Most of these offer desktop, web and mobile apps, so you can manage trades from a phone. News trading is allowed (check any limits in the rules).
